Hello! My name is Megan Wong, and I’m from Collegeville, Pennsylvania, a suburb of Philadelphia. I am a pre-med senior majoring in Biomedical Engineering with a minor in Chemistry. I am particularly interested in electrobiology and electrophysiology, so I have been pursuing research on neural interfaces in the Viventi Lab. This is my third year working with SAGE, and I have loved being a part of such a welcoming and supportive community (Thank you to all my participants, fellow learning facilitators, and bosses). Outside of class, I enjoy playing violin in the Duke Symphony Orchestra or as a volunteer at the Duke Hospital. I also like listening to classical music, watching musicals, reading books, playing tennis, and journal writing in my free time.

My name is Sarah Romans and I'm from St. Paul, Minnesota. I'm a senior studying neuroscience and this is my second year as a SAGE facilitator. At school, I play on the Duke women's club lacrosse team and volunteer at Duke hospital, and over the summers I work as a wilderness guide leading canoeing and backpacking trips for middle school and high school kids. In my free time I love to be outdoors, especially backpacking. In the future, I hope to attend medical school.

Hi. My name is Jason, and I’m a third-year pre-med who is majoring in Spanish. I’m also in the Cardea Fellows Program, so if you’re pre-med, maybe you’re in the program too, or maybe you know other Cardea Fellows. I’m from Raleigh (so far, I know), so outside of school, I enjoy hanging out with my friends from UNC and NC State. I also like to travel too! (Check out this pic of me next to an alpaca in Perú!)

Outside of Duke I am involved in research and volunteering at the Durham Nursing and Rehabilitation Center. After I graduate, I plan to go to medical school. One of the things I love to do is try the many of the different restaurants in Durham.

Hi! I'm Moreen and I am a rising senior from South Plainfield, NJ by way of Nairobi, Kenya. I am a Global Health & Evolutionary Anthropology with a minor in Chemistry. At Duke, I am a part of the Baldwin Scholars, Cardea Fellow, and Collegiate Athlete Premedical (CAPE) programs. I am also a regular volunteer at the Duke Preston Robert Tisch Brain Tumor Center as well as the Durham Samaritan Health Clinic. I am passionate about women's reproductive health and am currently conducting independent research with the Center for Global Reproductive Health. I hope to go to medical school following graduation. I love listening to audio books, walking around Durham, discovering new coffee shops, and having one-on-one talks with people. I'm looking forward to meeting everyone; let's have another successful year of SAGE!

Azim Dharani is a Junior from Dallas, TX interested in studying chemistry and computational biology. He currently works in the Franz lab in the Department of Chemistry working on the organic synthesis and biological evaluation of dithiocarbamate derivatives. His prior research involves X-ray crystallography, lung cancer drug development, and free energy modeling. In his free time, he enjoys watching stand up comedy, gardening, and eating twizzlers.

Hello! I’m Ben Succop. I’m a junior double majoring in Neuroscience and chemistry with the intent of pursuing an MD/Ph.D program after college. I grew up in the small town of Morganton, North Carolina, which is right at the foothills of the beautiful Appalachian Mountains. Some things I enjoy doing outside of school are water skiing, hiking, movies, Duke Basketball (I’m a line monitor!), and playing music as a percussionist for the wind symphony and symphony orchestra.

Hi! My name is Kiera Lunn. I am from a small town right outside of Charlotte, North Carolina known as Waxhaw. I am a senior, majoring in Evolutionary Anthropology with a minor in Biology and Chemistry. On campus, I work as a student athletic trainer for the football team, I serve as the faculty outreach chair for MAPS, and I also volunteer for various programs. In my free time, I love to watch Duke Basketball, try new restaurants, and binge watch shows on Netflix. In the future, I aspire to go to medical school, and hopefully become an orthopedic surgeon.

My name is Neera Mohammed. I am a junior from Ewing, New Jersey. I am majoring in Psychology, with a double minor in Biology and Chemistry. I am also on the pre-med track and plan to go to medical school for pediatric oncology. Outside of class, I work with Dr. Gaither in her social identity lab as well as with Dr. Bennet in his medical psychology lab. I also volunteer weekly at the Ronald McDonald House of Durham and Wake. For fun I love going to the beach or pool, anywhere I can swim! I also enjoy playing laser tag and paintball with my family and friends!

Hello, my name is Sandra Martha Batakana, a senior from Iganga, Uganda. I am majoring in chemistry with a concentration in math and minoring in global health. I was premed until Spring 2018 when I decided that it was not the path I wanted to take. I am very passionate about math and am currently doing math research under Duke Opportunities in Math (DoMath). I am also a math tutor and study group leader. I recently developed an interest in financial markets and so I hope to work in finance after graduation. Nonetheless, I still like chemistry and can't wait to share my experiences and make organic chemistry fun to learn. Outside school, I enjoy cooking food from different cultures, hiking, playing rugby, traveling and having very long phone calls with my family in Uganda.
